I usually cringe when I hear someone say: “They want to give back” when referring to doing some good deed. That makes it appear as though something above and beyond, some form of higher purpose is being executed. If that is the case, that is a shame. Don’t get me wrong, reaching out to others with no expectation of reward is very noble. I just don’t think it is special!
LIFE IS ALL ABOUT SERVING ONE ANOTHER, THAT’S THE POINT!
“I slept and dreamt that life was joy. I awoke and saw that life was service. I acted and behold, service was joy.”
Life is a team sport, a Family-style endeavor. Any one that does not see that is missing the point. We were all created to serve each other. Each of us has different skills and abilities that we bring to the table to make the picture complete. Finding real joy entails discovering the gifts you have,; (and you will know them as they are what you do best, and enjoy most), then using them for the common good.
“The best way to find yourself is to lose yourself in the service of others.”~Mohandas Gandhi~
Charity and altruisim is the best way to feel the pleasure of service to others, but just doing your job with love, caring for your family, and being corteous to strangers is SERVICE!
THERE IS NO GIVING BACK,,,ONLY DOING YOUR PART, AND WE ALL HAVE ONE!
Everywhere you look in life you will see the parallel:
sports team, business, puzzle, military, mosiac, tapestry, family, beehive, ant colony, wolf pack, volunteer group, church, ad- infinitumn! Everything that exisits, relys on everything else, and everything has a responsibility to do it’s part!
WHEN YOU FIND YOUR SPOT, YOU’LL KNOW BY THE JOY IT BRINGS YOU!
For the career carpenter; building the best wood creations to suit the needs of those that contract you is SERVICE. Working from the perspective of using your skills to improve the quality of life for others is SERVICE.
Policeman, Technician, accountant-Investment advisory, auto sales, manicurist, doctor, ad infinitum! Do what you do with love, putting the needs of the patron before your gratification, and you are SERVING
So many of us chase the $$, viewing those that contract us for our talent only as a means to garner a wage. Since we are not working from our core sense of love, we are not successful, and need to log many hours to satisfy our fearful search for satisfaction. Then we lament that we would love to “Give back” but just can’t find the time!! Sad!
If only everyone knew that each and every action we take could be an act of giving back. We are all looking at life through cloudy lenses. Time to wipe them off and really see where we are going.
(MATT 20:28 For even the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve others)
Do not go patting yourself on the back for helping others, as that will take the focus away from the service and onto self- aggrandizement. Use your ability to benefit the common good with humilty and passion, and joy will be your reward
The Journey IS the Destination
